Why linen stays with us all summer
Linen breathes. That is the first reason we return to it every year as soon as the warm days arrive. The fibre lets air through, absorbs moisture and stays cool to the touch, even when the sun beats on the shutters. A home dressed in linen keeps a light feeling, without ever looking careless.
This year, washed linen takes on a more refined look. We see it in denser weaves, with a better drape and clean finishes. We like this slightly structured linen for curtains and tablecloths, while a softer linen keeps its place on a bed or a sofa. The material ages well and gains a patina over time, which makes it even lovelier after a few summers.
The light of Antibes and pale fibres
In Antibes, the light comes off the sea. It is sharp in the morning, warmer at the end of the day, and it changes everything in a room. Natural fibres catch it without hardening it. A curtain of ecru linen filters the sun and lays a soft brightness on the walls, where a synthetic sheer would bounce back a flat, cold glare.
We often play with this light. A linen panel in front of a south-facing window softens the hottest hours. A pale cloth on a terrace table returns a gentle glow in the shade of a fig tree. These simple gestures are enough to make a home calmer and more restful, without adding anything unnecessary.
Our favourite materials for the season
Washed linen remains our first choice for curtains, bed linen and tablecloths. It creases a little, and that is exactly what we like. Cotton gauze, lighter and airier, suits summer throws and small kitchen curtains. It washes easily and dries fast, which matters when you live outdoors for part of the day.
Jute and hemp come into our homes through the floor and through baskets. A large jute rug lays a warm base under bare feet and absorbs the excess light. We add a few woven baskets to hold throws and magazines, an honest way to keep a room tidy without extra furniture. These fibres pair with each other easily, because they share the same natural tones.

Linen room by room
In the bedroom, we dress the bed in washed linen in a sand or natural tone. A creased duvet cover, two matching pillowcases and a folded cotton throw at the foot of the bed are enough to set a restful mood. The night stays cool and the morning feels softer, because the material follows the shifts in temperature.
