Nid Douillet
Ninety-two-square-metre apartment on the arcaded square of Valbonne. Full atmosphere reset, earth-and-linen palette, antique armchairs reupholstered. The studio coordinated joinery, paint and upholstery across eight weeks.

The brief was easy to state and demanding to keep: preserve the character of an eighteenth-century village apartment without slipping into reconstruction. Thick stone walls, original terracotta floors, modest ceiling height, two front windows facing the square. Light that changes every hour and had to be tamed.
We started by removing what no longer served: a 1980s dropped ceiling, two white melamine cupboards, a wall covering that hid the stone in the entryway. The room found its real height and its mineral touch again. From there, everything got simpler.
The palette settled on three broken tones: a warm lime white on the walls, a soft earth on the window and kitchen joinery, a deep black on the fireplace and door surrounds. Furniture came in the second pass: a raw-linen sofa rebuilt by our upholsterer, two inherited antique armchairs reworked from the frame up, a low table in oiled raw oak.
The project held to eight weeks of installation, after six weeks of mood boards and sourcing. The owners moved back in on a Friday evening. By Monday they wrote to us: the home finally looked like the home they had pictured when they bought it.
